The Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Affairs (OVPREA) invites researchers to participate in the "Research Forum of the Month Series". The purpose of these workshops is to build synergies around key topics and develop teams of interested researchers and leaders to advance strategic areas.

Personalized Medicine *NEW*

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Affairs invites you to the “Personalized Medicine Research Forum,” Friday, October 23, 2009 in the Biodesign Auditorium. The Forum will feature discussions that will touch on a spectrum of topics relevant to Personalized Medicine; biomarker research and diagnostics, health information technology, law and policy. The forum will be hosted by Dr. Joshua LaBaer, Virginia G. Piper Chair for Personalized Medicine and Director, Virginia G. Piper Center for Personalized Diagnostics. Refreshments will be served. Health Information Technology

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Affairs hosted an afternoon forum on health information technology efforts at ASU on Friday, April 24, 2009 in the Biodesign Auditorium. ASU faculty and Mayo Clinic partner researchers presented on efforts in the areas of health information exchange, health management and policy, comparative effectiveness research, interoperability and systems issues, nursing and community outreach trials, modeling and simulation of public health data, the diagnostic healthcare monitoring "box", bioinformatics, and social and ethical dimensions of health information technologies. Advanced Materials

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Affairs hosted a forum on advanced materials Friday, March 27, 2009 in the Biodesign Auditorium. ASU faculty presented on research in the areas of computational materials science, superconductors, chemical sensors, biosensors, and flexible materials. Renewable Energy

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Affairs hosted a forum on renewable energy on Friday, February 27, 2009. Several Arizona Institute for Renewable Energy (AIRE) faculty presented on their current research which was followed by a brainstorming session to address potential teams and synergies, funding opportunities, follow-up activities, future action items and potential project leaders. Representatives from the ASU Foundation provided background on possible private/foundation funding and OVPREA provided information regarding the ARRA 2009 and federal funding opportunities.

ARRA 2009 - Stimulus and Recovery Package

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was passed by Congress on Feb. 13, 2009 and signed into law by President Obama on Feb. 17, 2009. The stimulus and recovery package will have a considerable effect on sponsored research. It will require federal agencies to disburse significant sums of research money within a very brief timeframe.
